Women with otosclerosis often experience a (permanent) drop in their hearing during pregnancy. This occurs at other times, as well, btw. If you have experienced a loss in hearing during pregnancy, you might want to get a referral to an ENT for a diagnosis. Gynecologists, general practitioners and nurse practitioners don’t have the specialized training necessary for pinpointing causes of hearing loss. Oh, I believe that rubella can cause blindness and/or deafness in the baby if a woman contracts it during pregnancy, but I don’t believe the illness is considered serious for the mother. Sandy

I have heard of it happening to pregnant women that they lost their hearing or some of it, but all the people I have heard of had hereditary tendency to hearing loss in their family. Their nerves apparently were born "weak" genetically. It’s not a reason for the average woman to avoid being pregnant (there are much more cogent reasons such as overpopulation…) ———————————————————- * Therese Shellabarger - tlsh…@concentric.net * * http://www.concentric.net/~tlshell/ Shalom chaverot! * ———————————————— * See Deaf Expo at http://www.deafexpo.org/ * ———————————————————- Unless explicitly stated to the contrary, nothing here should be regarded as representing my employer’s opinions.
